Planned Giving: An Inspirational Story
Claire Nash was a special member of the Chilton Medical Center family. As an active community member, Claire believed in the value of a thriving community hospital. While Chilton was advised that the hospital was included in her plans, after her death, Chilton learned that Claire had named the Foundation as a significant beneficiary of her will. Her parting gift was used to set up the Walter C. and Gary H. Nash Fund.
The gift is an endowment, a special fund at the Foundation that is used to provide on-going support for the Hospital. Each year the Foundation uses a percentage of the value of the endowed fund to support life-saving programs.
One of the programs designated by the Nash Endowment was support for Nursing Education. This year, the fund will be used to educate nursing staff in the utilization of three software applications: Meditech, Doctor First and Clinical View. Together, these programs enable medical professionals to review and order patient medications, and to avoid prescribing medications that interact with each other or to which patients have allergies. With this technology and training, medication errors and drug interactions are reduced, providing a higher level of care for all Chilton Medical Center patients. Such training would not be possible without Claire's generous gift. Five years after her death, Claire is still making a difference in people's lives.
